PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN
SITE OF SERVICE:
• VA Milwaukee Healthcare System
POSITION SUMMARY:
The VAMC is part of the VA Great Lakes Healthcare System Network and serves veterans in a 16-county
region in southeastern and east central Wisconsin. It also operates five community-based clinics. This
facility is named after Clement J. Zablocki, a Milwaukee native who served as Wisconsin's 4th
congressional district representative for almost 35 years. The grounds of the VAMC include the
Milwaukee Soldiers Home, a National Historic Landmark.
In this role, you will provide general medical care and serve as a patient's first point of contact for health
concerns. You manage routine checkups, address common illnesses, and coordinate care with specialists
when needed.
POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:
• Experience: At least 24 of the prior 36 months working in primary care
• License: a current license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the
United States or the District of Columbia)
• Board Certification: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
• Certificate:
o BLS
o NPI report printout
o Active DEA license
• US Citizenship: US Citizen
• Must not be on the OIG Excluded list
• Ability to effectively speak, understand, read, and write English
• Background check required
• Must meet health screening requirements
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft OS and software and functional typing/keyboarding skills
• Be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods and physically capable of
performing all the services required under the contract and TO
CORE DUTIES
• Primary care as appropriate and within the scope of practice/privileging
• Conduct comprehensive medical assessments including history-taking, physical examinations,
diagnosis, and initiation of treatment plans. Respond to and manage emergency situations,
facilitating treatment and patient transfers when necessary.
• Provide follow-up care for patients with ongoing medical issues, adjusting diagnostic testing and
medication regimens as appropriate to improve patient outcomes.
• Refer patients to appropriate VA specialists or other healthcare providers when specialized care
is required.
